Product Type Guidelines for Vendors

To ensure your products appear in the correct collections and are easy for customers to find, please follow these product type guidelines when listing items on The Amalgam Edit.

Why Product Types Matter

Product types help organize your items into the right collections automatically. When you set the correct product type, your products will appear in relevant categories like "Return Gifts" or vendor-specific collections.

Required: Always Set a Product Type

Never leave the product type field blank. Every product must have a product type assigned.

Standard Product Types to Use

Clothing & Apparel (will NOT appear in Return Gifts)

  • Saree - All types of sarees (silk, cotton, pattu, etc.)
  • Dress - Dresses, gowns, frocks
  • Kurta - Kurtas and kurtis
  • Lehenga - Lehengas and chaniya cholis
  • Blouse - Blouses and tops
  • Clothing - Any other apparel items

Jewelry (will NOT appear in Return Gifts)

  • Jewelry - Necklaces, earrings, bangles, rings, etc.

Footwear (will NOT appear in Return Gifts)

  • Footwear - Shoes, sandals, slippers, heels
  • Shoes - Alternative for footwear items

Return Gift Items (will appear in Return Gifts collection)

  • Home Decor - Decorative items, urli bowls, wall art, figurines
  • Candles - Scented candles, diyas, tea lights
  • Stationery - Notebooks, pens, journals, planners
  • Gift Box - Gift hampers, curated boxes, gift sets
  • Kitchen - Kitchen tools, utensils, cookware
  • Wellness - Aromatherapy, essential oils, spa items
  • Toys - Toys and games
  • Accessories - Bags, wallets, scarves (non-clothing)
  • Pooja Items - Religious and spiritual items
  • Festive Decor - Torans, rangoli, festival decorations

How to Set Product Type

  1. When creating or editing a product in your vendor dashboard
  2. Find the "Product type" field in the product organization section
  3. Enter the exact product type from the list above (spelling and capitalization matter)
  4. Save your product

Examples

  • ✅ Correct: "Tissue pythani" → Product Type: Saree
  • ✅ Correct: "Urli Bowl with Stand" → Product Type: Home Decor
  • ✅ Correct: "Marigold Toran" → Product Type: Festive Decor
  • ❌ Incorrect: "Kanchi pattu saree" → Product Type: (blank)
